Description
Tucked into the southeast corner of BC, the Kootenay Rockies are a hidden paradise for outdoor recreation. As you move westwards from the world-famous peaks of the Rocky Mountains, the crowds get smaller, the communities more colourful and the opportunities for adventure more numerous. From fishing for the famous Gerrard rainbow trout in secluded sun-filled valleys to ripping along some of the world’s best mountain bike trails, the Kootenays have something for everyone. Hunters can take advantage of some of the most abundant deer populations in BC, while mountaineers have enough peaks to summit to last a lifetime. In the winter, local skiers and snowboarders enjoy one of Canada’s best kept secrets – generous dumps of Kootenay champagne powder.
To help you take advantage of this incredible region, the latest edition of our Kootenay Rockies Backroad Mapbook features extensive updates and upgrades from our last publication. We have added private land areas, fish species and countless new trails, along with refining and expanding the region’s backroads. Our Adventure sections have been greatly expanded, including doubling the Backroads, ATV and Wildlife Viewing sections. Additionally, we have added fish stocking charts and trail charts for hiking and backcountry skiing.
