Backroad Maps Celebrates 30 Years of Outdoor Adventure!

In business since 1993 and founded by brothers Russell and Wesley Mussio, Backroad Mapbooks is Canada’s original backcountry map publisher. Known nationwide for its backcountry, topographic, fishing, and GPS maps, Backroad Mapbooks has evolved over the years to offer both print and digital products.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Backroad Mapbooks, we have decided to refresh our logo and rebrand our name from “Backroad Mapbooks” to “Backroad Maps”, to reflect our exciting evolution from paper mapbooks to an entire outdoor adventure lifestyle brand featuring a long line-up of both print and digital mapbooks, waterproof topographic maps, GPS maps, a smartphone App, and the BRMB Web Map. To compliment our rebranding, we have simplified our logo to include a new pin along with the new name of “Backroad Maps”. This new logo can be found both on our website and on all our new products and merchandise moving forward.

What hasn’t changed is our industry-leading cartographic maps and detail-packed adventure points of interest that ensure our customers find their way into and out of the backcountry safely. With a business philosophy based on constant improvement, our maps are frequently reviewed, ensuring that we are providing the most up-to-date and comprehensive information possible. Because of this, Backroad Maps have long been the map of choice for search and rescue organizations.

Here at Backroad Maps, we are excited to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and new rebrand. And even better than cake, our exciting new updates for 2023 include Version 2 of the BRMB Maps app which will feature a brand new map style and map updates across Canada, plus we are working on the addition of Apple Car Play and Navigation/Direction options. We also have some exciting new Recreation Maps being released in 2023, covering the areas of Squamish, Chilliwack, Merritt, and Haida Gwaii in British Columbia. Our team has been working hard to update and refine our Mapbooks, and we are excited to launch brand new 2023 versions of our New Brunswick & PEI, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Vancouver Island BC, Kootenay Rockies BC, and Ontario Cottage Country Mapbooks.
